New Year, New You?

New Year, January 1st, is one of the oldest holidays still celebrated.

However, the exact date and nature of the festivities has changed over time. It originated thousands of years ago in ancient Babylon, celebrated as an eleven-day festival on the first day of spring. Julius Caesar stepped in with the Julian calendar in 45BC and January 1st became the day for celebration. These were pagan celebrations but when Christianity became the official religion of the Roman Empire in the 4th Century, this day became a holy day. Christian tradition celebrates the Feast of the Circumcision of Christ on New Year’s Day, eight days after the birth of Christ. ** It wasn’t until 1939 that we had any idea why. The human body has two blood clotting factors; Vitamin K and Prothrombin. With seeming in-consequence, these factors peak at 110% on the 8th day, before leveling off at 100% of normal, making this the safest day for circumcision in those days.

In the 2oth century, the holy day became separated from the common association with religion.

It is now a holiday associated with nationality, relationships and introspections for many. However, Australia remains a strong Christian nation and many recognize the significance of Christmas. From the information In the many articles published in the news and social media we ought to be well. We can then make New Year resolutions like learning the guitar or a language, and the like, as all your health worries will be resolved. Yes?

We have talked about eating a real food diet, while using the amazing information on eating to your blood type.

This helps to refine your fresh whole food selection specifically for your body. Then there is the need for rehydration minerals and water in tropical climates. This is also a reason why unprocessed salt is good for you. If we are living a life of work and family challenges, then we may need to take daily nutritional supplements; especially B stress daily, fish oils or omega 3’s in some form, and a quality multivitamin. Also, some immune support such as zinc and vitamin C. For those who are just constantly tired, add an herbal tonic containing astragalus or ginseng formulas. Take as per label directions to boost your overall health.

Eat real butter for your A, E, D & K fat soluble vitamins.

Remember we need to find time to let the sun touch our bodies without sunscreen too. We also need to get to bed without taking our mobile, I Pad or kindle to bed too, not under the pillow, not beside the bed. Leave it in the lounge room, it will not be lonely, and you won’t either because you may sleep all night when it’s not close to you.

Then there is the power of plant food, vegetables.

Eat them raw, cooked or blended for vitality, along with quality protein, free ranged meats, chicken and wild fish. Home cooked is best and a slow cooker makes things easy. Serve with gut friendly fermented food along with brain friendly fats.

This is how we ate before we were told how to eat.

These are the foods and lifestyle that allowed your body to move in and out of ketosis, creating a healthy metabolic state. And have fun this year moving your body with dancing or walking, swimming, cycling, rebounding, gardening or anything that takes you outside in the fresh air and sunshine. Early morning or afternoon barefoot walk on the beach without sunglasses, with the sea water lapping the legs, and the sunlight on your body is a wonderful way to reconnect with nature, rejuvenator of mind, body and soul.

Remember, raw food is the original fast food and there are many ways to put a raw food snack together.

If for some reason you haven’t done that this year, maybe your new year resolution could be to try new food preparation and home cooking skills, so that there is always some yummy homemade something in the fridge or freezer for snack attacks and just great family meal times. No fuss, no mess, no bother! I like Zig Ziglar’s quote “the fastest way to success is to replace bad habits with good habits”. If we work on this, one habit at a time, I’m sure 2020 will be a fruitful year for you. Have a wonderful new year, filled with new things, new challenges, new life.

** For those who are curious, I’ve posted an article on the technical aspects to circumcision on the 8th day. See Christian Health Care: “Biblical Accuracy and Circumcision on the 8th Day”

Happy reading and Happy New Year.
